VOP is the advocacy arm of the SVDP. We identify issues that are critical to those living in poverty and need, and help bring attention to them so communities and elected representatives can develop strategies and tactics that will provide the most effective and efficient means to reduce or eliminate poverty.
Meetings
St. Vincent de Paul has twice-monthly conference (parish-level) meetings for spiritual reflection, conduct of business, and review of efforts aiding those in need.
Home Visits
Vincentians visit, in pairs, those in need to see how assistance may be provided.
In addition to direct support, we help those in need with a wide array of information on available local assistance: housing, food, clothing, transportation, medical care, pregnancy support, employment, legal and immigration services, low-interest loans, and other aid.
Food Pantries
Food and personal hygiene items are available at no cost at any of the six food pantries operated by St. Vincent de Paul in the Diocese of Arlington.
A low-interest loan program designed to help those SVdP serves create positive credit scores so that they may experience the benefits of credit in the U.S. economy.
The loans, which are administered in partnership with Apple Federal Credit Union, are designed to help borrowers escape the burden of high-interest loans (i.e., pay day and car title loans) and generate new income-producing ventures, such as starting their own small businesses.
Friends of the Poor Walk
Vincentians walk and run in support of an annual program designed to raise funds to help those living in poverty.
Disaster Services
The Disaster Services Corporation is a national lay organization that helps people in situational poverty caused by natural and man-made disasters get their lives back in order.
Local Vincentians across the U.S. dedicate thousands of volunteer hours helping families impacted by fires, floods, earthquakes, storms and other natural disasters.
